Field notes
Two cells fitted, one spare in the box, fifteen to twenty hours on a steady setting. What that means for an evening, a season and a drawer.
Every band ships with two CR2016 cells already fitted in the compartment at the clasp, and one CR2032 spare alongside it. An eight-band set therefore arrives with eight spares, the twelve-band set with twelve and the crowd pack with twenty-four. Nothing needs to be bought before the first evening, and nothing needs to be assembled.
On a steady setting a fitted pair runs roughly fifteen to twenty hours. Flash modes go further, because the light is off for part of every cycle. In practical terms that is several evenings rather than one: a set opened for a birthday on Saturday will still be lighting a dog walk on Wednesday if it was switched off in between.
The single biggest thing that shortens the life of a set is nobody pressing the button at the end of the night. A band left on a steady setting in a coat pocket will have run its cells flat by the weekend. We put a reminder in every set for that reason, and we would rather repeat it here: the last press of the evening is the one that pays for the next event.
Slide the plastic carrier out of the band at the clasp, lift the old cells out, drop the replacement in with the printed face upward, and push the carrier back until the door clicks. It takes about twenty seconds once you have done one. The spare in the box is a CR2032, which is slightly thicker than the CR2016 pair it replaces and seats on its own.
Coin cells are dangerous if swallowed and this is the part of the product we are least relaxed about. Keep spares in their packaging and out of reach, check every battery door is fully closed before a band goes on a wrist, and supervise children while they are wearing one. If you suspect a cell has been swallowed, seek medical help immediately.
Switch every band off, keep the spares with the set rather than loose in a drawer, and store the whole thing somewhere that does not freeze. Cold cells lose a little of their punch, which is why a set pulled straight out of a garage in January can look dim for the first few minutes and then recover indoors.
Please remember that each bracelet is its own controller — no remote, no sound trigger — and that the security a lit wrist gives you at an event is about being countable, not about being protected on a road. Keep spare cells out of reach and supervise children while they wear a band.
Yes, and the spare cell in the box exists precisely so you can. Switch the band off, keep the spare with it, and swap the cells when the light visibly dims.
Two coin cells at the clasp feed an LED strip running the length of the band, and a button on the outside switches it between steady, fast flash and slow flash.
Because unlike most things handed out at an event, a band with a live cell in it keeps working afterwards. That is the entire argument, and the spare cell is what makes it true rather than a slogan.
