Built for the last week of October

There is one week a year when an entire neighbourhood walks around in the dark at the same time, and orange is the colour of it. A band is easier to keep track of than a torch, it cannot be put down on a wall and forgotten, and it does not interfere with whatever a child is carrying in both hands. We sell more orange in that single week than the rest of the range sells in a month.

Fall festivals and football evenings

Orange does not stop working on the first of November. School colours, pumpkin walks, hayrides and the long run of evening football that fills autumn all take the same shade. On a slow flash across a stand it photographs as a warm moving band rather than a wall of floodlight, which is why the set turns up in so many school albums.

Keeping a group together in the dark

The practical argument for a single shade on a busy street is simple: you are not looking for a child, you are looking for your colour. Eight orange bands moving together are far easier to count at a glance than eight different ones, and counting is what you actually do every thirty seconds on a crowded pavement.

How this set is controlled

Every bracelet in the box is its own controller. One button on the outside cycles the light, there is no remote to lose and no sound trigger waiting on the music, so an eight-person table can run three different modes at once. Please press each battery door shut before the event starts and keep the spare cells out of reach of small children, who should be supervised while they wear a band. A lit wrist buys you the security of being able to count a group in the dark; it is not safety equipment.

Questions about this set

Can you reuse a light up bracelet?

Yes. Switch the band off with the same button, keep its spare cell with it, and it comes out of the drawer working at the next event.

How do light up bracelets work?

Two coin cells at the clasp power an LED strip inside the woven band, and the button on the outside switches it between steady, fast flash and slow flash.

How much is a bracelet?

This set is listed at $15.29 for 8 orange bands and 8 spare cr2032 cells, which works out to a couple of dollars per wrist.
